The top of the sludge chamber (19) communicates with the inlet gully (10) and also communicates via an overflow edge (21) with a well section (20) to one side of the chamber. The well section includes a downwards-facing partition wall (25) that stops at a distance from the bottom of this section and preferably comprises a downwards-swinging hatch, this wall being used to form a water trap and the hatch allowing access to the connecting passage (26) for drainage pipes.
