PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively correct a distortion with a small amount of calculation even in a reading scan image where the outer shape of a page is lost from a middle part. SOLUTION: When a book original is read as an original, for example, the reading scan image is binarized and character strings are extracted (step S2-S7). The three-dimensional shape (a lift amount from a contact glass) of the book original is estimated based on the change of the character strings in shape (step S8-S11). The distortion of the scan image is corrected based on the lift amount from the contact glass (step S12-S13). Thus, the distortion is effectively corrected with a small amount of calculation even in the reading scan image where the outer page of the book original is lost from the middle part.
