[Also in Division F1] A relief valve for a filter in the lubricating oil system of a motor vehicle is of piston type as shown, having relief ports 55. In the inoperative position the piston and a resilient contact 65, 66 form a closed electric switch enabling a warning lamp to be lit when the ignition is switched-on. Normal working pressure on starting opens this switch. If the filter is becoming dirty a second, adjustable, electric contact 59 carried on a spring 58 from the piston engages a fixed contact to switch-on a warning device and when the pressure becomes excessive the relief ports 55 are uncovered.
