PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce switching transistor loss of a switching power supply circuit. SOLUTION: In the switching power supply circuit where a voltage obtained by rectifying an AC power supply voltage is switched through an inductance and a switching element, the switching element is operated only during an interval required for satisfying a power factor criterion in one half period of an AC waveform and operation of the switching element is stopped during other interval.
