PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording method and a recorder capable of restoring management information when a fault occurs in the management information for managing the hierarchical structure of a file system. SOLUTION: The recording method for recording data in a recording medium based on a hierarchical file system records the management information for managing the hierarchical structure of the file system in the specific area of the recording medium, handles an unused area in a specific area as a special file, copies the whole specific area as it is in another area and handles the copied whole specific area as a single backup file. When a part of the management information becomes unreadable, the size of a special file is reduced by using data corresponding to a part of the backup file, thereby restoring a part of the unreadable management information in an unoccupied part in a specific area. |
