A subject-matter of the present invention is a process, in at least two stages, for the preparation of functionalized polychloroprene latices obtained by copolymerization of chloroprene and of a mixture of comonomers comprising alpha , beta -unsaturated acids and/or esters, in aqueous emulsion in the presence of radical initiators, characterized in that: the first stage consists of the polymerization of the mixture of alpha , beta -unsaturated acids and/or esters, in combination or not in combination with chloroprene, thus making it possible to obtain (co)polymer particles with a diameter of between 45 and 80 nm; the second stage consists of the polymerization of chloroprene in the presence of particles of (co)polymer obtained at the end of the first stage, the number of particles at the end of the second stage being equal to or very little different from that measured at the end of the first stage.
