<p>Coating compsns. contain water-dispersible phenolic resins and acrylic co-polymers partly as salts of ammonia or volatile amines with the following properties (1) an electrical conductivity of 0.7 to 1.8 X 10-3 ohms-1 at 30 degrees C at a solids content of 12 wt. %, (2) a current curve which rises steeply initially and falls after 20 secs. to below 0.8 mA/cm2 and after 2 mins to below 0.36 mA/cm2 at 30 degrees C and 160 V potential and (3) at a dilution of 0.1% solids and thickness of 2.5 cm, a light transmission of 90%. The compsns. are suitable for electrolytic deposition on metal objects which are subsequently stoved at 100 degrees-200 degrees C. More uniform deposits are obtained on interior surfaces and surfaces away from the electrodes. Extensive de-watering of the film by electro-osmosis occurs, which increases adhesion.</p> |
