A process for producing a plastic carrier bag (1), comprises folding the longitudinal edges of a double layered, tubular plastic film material (2) inwards, to form side folds (3,4), and forming a base seam (5) using a lateral weld. The base region has a reinforcing strip (10) welded onto the side walls, which extend parallel to the base seam, to the side fold region. The apparatus used to produce the bag also comprises a lateral welding unit (28) and a cutting unit (24). The drum is located in a suction chamber (35), and has a central pipe (17) which is connected to a suction blower. An electrostatic charge unit is used to charge up the plastic material. A motor is used to drive the supply and welding units. |
