PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automotive air bag device which can surely tear a cleaving groove covered with a backing member without making an inflator a big and high output type. SOLUTION: The backing member 13 is made of a highly soft quality resin to be deformed by the expanding force of the air bag 9 to produce an expanding force to the cleaving groove 12, so that the cleaving groove 12 is easy to be torn and the inflator 4 has not be a big and high output type. Then, the device is advantageous in terms of weight and costs.
