PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate route guidance to a destination by providing a route guidance system with a means for providing detailed map information not stored in map information of the system from the outside. SOLUTION: The detailed map information and modified map information stored in a map data base 112 of a center device 102 are received by a communication device 108 and added to map data read from an optical disk drive 104. Then route retrieval is performed through the use of the detailed map information by a route retrieving device 109, and route information is provided for a user by a display device 106.
