PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding device provided with a structure capable of accurately detecting the residual quantity independently of a displacement of a paper feeding cassette after inserting the cassette in consideration of the residual quantity detecting structure for detecting a raised quantity of a tray. SOLUTION: This paper feeding device 1 is provided with the paper feeding cassette 2 having a tray 2A to be loaded with several numbers of recording papers and provided with the structure for raising a delivery side of the tray inside thereof, a tray elevation driving rotary shaft 8 projected outside from the paper feeding cassette 2, a driving source side driving shaft 9 to be engaged/ removed with/from the tray elevation driving rotary shaft 8 outside of the paper feeding cassette 2, and detecting sensors 12 and 13 for detecting the rotation angle of the tray elevation driving rotary shaft 8. The driving source side driving shaft 9 is provided in a part to be loaded with the paper feeding cassette 2, and a filler member 21 for switching the operating condition of the detecting sensors 12 and 13 is provided at a position opposite to the detecting sensors 12 and 13 in the axial direction.
