PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high-purity arylmethylphosphonate derivative in good yield under mild conditions. SOLUTION: In this method, an arylmethylphosphonate derivative, for example, 4-methyl benzyl chloride, and a phosphite diester, for example, phosphite diethyl, are allowed to react under basic conditions in an aprotic organic solvent to produce an arylmethylphosphonate derivative of general formula I, for example, diethyl-4-methyl benzyl phosphonate (wherein, Q is a (non)substituted monocyclic or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon group; R3 and R4 are each independently hydrogen, a 1-20C straight or branched-chain alkyl group, alkenyl group, alkynyl group, a 3-8C cycloalkyl group or aryl group; and R1 and R2 are each independently a 1-20C straight or branched-chain alkyl group, alkenyl group, alkynyl group, or a 3-8C cycloalkyl group.).
