PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye for staining dental plaque for detecting white spots, which dye contains a pigment whose tone inflection point is within a range of pH 4-7. SOLUTION: The dye for staining dental plaque can identify and detect the existence of white spots by staining the dental plaque with white spots differently from dental plaque without white spots. When the existence of white spots is revealed, appropriate treatments of early dental caries (use of fluorine- containing toothpaste or fluoride application) are promoted. The dye is also useful as a motivation to remove dental plaque, for the evaluation of dental plaque removal effects, and as a means to improve the removal technique of dental plaque.
