PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for correcting the check digit of a bar code capable of discovering the preparation mistake of a check digit at a host computer side, and correcting a calculation formula capable of preparing an accurate check digit in the host computer. SOLUTION: Whether or not a check digit from a host computer side is appropriate is judged at a bar code printer side, and the judged result is returned to the host computer side. As for print data including a bar code and the transmission check digit of the bar code to be transmitted from the host computer, appropriate check digit calculation is operated at the bar code printer side, and whether or not it is correct is judged, and the judged data are returned to the host computer.
