PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize filtering processing using a small-scale circuit configuration by constituting a filtering arithmetic operation to eliminate mosquito noise of hardware. SOLUTION: An image processing unit is provided with a frame memory 1 that stores image information; an intermediate line buffer 2 that temporarily stores the image information read therefrom; an activity detection circuit 13 that detects the difference between the pieces of adjacent image information stored in the intermediate line buffer 2; a smoothing circuit 11 that smoothes the image information stored in the intermediate line buffer 2; a 1st selector 7 that changes over the output from the intermediate line buffer 2 and the output from the smoothing circuit 11 on the basis of a discrimination result of the activity detection circuit 13; a processing area detection circuit 9 that detects the processing object area of the image information stored in the frame memory 1; and a 2nd selector 10 that changes over the output from the frame memory 1 and an output from the 1st selector 7, on the basis of the discrimination result of the processing area detection circuit 9.
