PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle image pickup device that uses a single image pickup element so as to pick up an image of scenery in a plurality of directions without the need for dividing a viewing angle and an image pickup plane. SOLUTION: The on-vehicle image pickup device is provided with a single image pickup element 7 where color filters of a plurality of colors are placed to each pixel, optical systems 9, 11, 15, 17 that guide light beams 23L, 23R, 23F captured from left, right, front images of scenery to the image pickup element 7 and composite them to form an image onto the image pickup element 7, a plurality of color filters 13, 19 that are placed on optical paths for the light beams 23L, 23R, 23F, extract optical components in different colors used for the color filters from the light beams on the optical paths and form the image of each extracted optical component from the optical systems onto the image pickup element 7, an image processing section 4 that separately produces the image signals of the left, right and front images of the scenery on the basis of the color signal obtained from the image pickup element 7, and a display device 5 that selectively displays the left, right, front images of each scenery on the basis of each image signal generated by the image processing section 4.
