The invention relates to a stanchion (1) that is used for metal racks. The design and production of said stanchion prevents the disposal of the material corresponding to the openings that are intended to receive the lugs of the fixing element used between the crossbars and the stanchion (1). The openings are formed using a technique consisting in stamping (2) the upper part of said openings and subsequently cutting only the lower part (2.1) thereof. In this way, the upper area of the housing, which is intended for the lugs of the fixing element, is reinforced by means of the rib formed during said stamping (2). As a result, concentrations of force lines are prevented and the load capacity of the stanchion (1) is increased.
