A web of glass fibre is supported in a rectangular frame, made of cardboard and having sets of parallel ribs which abut the downstream face of the web and maintain its pleated form. In Fig. 2 ribs 58, 63 are initially adjacent areas of the central panel 3 of a blank (Fig. 1, not shown) which is cut and folded to raise ribs 63 from the plane of panel 3 providing passages 55 therethrough, and peripheral panels 9, 11, 12, (13) are subsequently folded and glued or stapled to form the periphery of the frame. The web (not shown) is then glued in place. In Figs. 6-8 (not shown), one set of ribs is formed by areas of the central panel (103) from which upstanding separate trapezoidal tabs (169) are pressed whose slotted apices then receive separate ribs (172) which are later attached to the frame periphery. In Figs. 9-12 (not shown) the central panel (203) of the blank has multi-slotted areas (267) separated by parallel unslotted areas (268), and areas (267) are pressed and thereby expanded to form upstanding ridges of hexagonal openwork structure. In Figs. 13-19 (not shown) the central aperture in a frame is bridged by one set of parallel ribs (306) of V-section and by another set of ribs which each comprise alternate trapezoidal sections (312) extending perpendicular to straight portions (309). The latter ribs are made by transversely folding cardboard .strips (307) and they are attached in the frame with the wide ends of sections (312) nesting in ribs (306), to support a web (380) whose pleats extend perpendicularly to ribs (306).</p> |
