PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel having nearly the same size as the effective size of an optical system. SOLUTION: This lens barrel has zoom lens groups 4 and 8 respectively driven in the front of/at the back of an object optical path with respect to a shutter mechanism 6 constituted of a base plate 6b, shutter blades 22 and 23 provided at the base plate and an actuator 6a driving the shutter blades. The shutter mechanism is fixed, and a rotary cam ring 3 is provided on a front side thereof. The zoom lens group 8 positioned on an opposite side from the rotary cam ring 3 to the shutter unit has a direct advance arm penetrated through the base plate 6b and extended. Cam followers 4a and 8a are respectively connected with both zoom lens groups 4 and 8, and are driven by the rotation of the rotary cam ring 3.
