Microbrowser software (40) transmits requests for content and/or executable software via HTTP channels (85, 100, 150) to the server software (50) and/or the remote server (170), and receives content and/or executable software back from the microserver software (50) and/or the remote server (170) via the HTTP channels (85, 100, 150). The method includes the steps of: <SL> <LI>(1) identifying at the microserver software (50) and the remote server (170) availability of supplementary content and/or executable software and issuing corresponding notifying instructions therefrom via private communication channels (90, 160) to the microbrowser software (40); <LI>(2) notifying existence via the browser software (40) of the supplementary content and/or the executable software to the user, and transmitting getting instructions from the browser software (40) to the microserver software (50) and/or the remote server (170); <LI>(3) receiving the getting instructions at the microserver software (50) and/or the remote server (170), and transmitting the supplementary content and/or executable software therefrom to the microbrowser software (40). </SL> The microbrowser software (40) can thus be informed of supplementary content and or executable software from the server (170) or the microserver software (50) in the context of the system (10, 120).
