A system for regulating the speed of an engine for driving a generator

A system is disclosed for controlling the speed of an engine 60 (for example an i.c engine) driving an electrical generator 90. In one embodiment the air/fuel ratio in the combustion chamber of the engine is adjusted to regulate the frequency of the AC electric power provided by the generator 90. Said engine speed may be further controlled via spark retardation of the ignition means. The control may further comprise a PID controller based on measurements of the intake manifold pressure 34. In a further embodiment a system is disclosed ,wherein the air/fuel ratio is adjusted to regulate engine speed to a desired engine speed. A still further embodiment discloses retarding timing of the spark ignition in response to sudden engine load loss.
