PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of forming a satisfactory image causing little soiling of its background by preventing the sticking of toner from the non-image part of an image carrier. SOLUTION: In this apparatus, the electric potential difference between the surface electric potential of a photoreceptor 11 and the surface electric potential of an intermediate transfer belt 16c is set so that electric discharge is not generated at an image part but it is generated at the non-image part. At this time, when the electric discharge is generated once at the non-image part on the photoreceptor 11, the electric potential of the non-image part is attenuated and, moreover, the polarity of the toner left a little on the photoreceptor 11 is reversed by being affected by the electric discharge at development. As a result, the toner left on the non-image part of the body 11 is hardly transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 16c and the satisfactory image to which the sticking of the toner causing the soiling of the background is little is formed. |
