A safety belt anchorage pillar G including a readily deformable part 10 is detachably secured to a vehicle floor approximately on the longitudinal axis thereof, being bolted to the transmission tunnel if any. Parts 10, 11 and 15 of the pillar which may be separably connected to each other may be of metal or synthetic plastics material. The part 11 is hollow to accommodate a retraction reel with inertiaoperated locking means. Alternative attachment points 13 for one belt may be provided and belts for two adjacent seats may be anchored to one pillar. A conventional anchorage point 4<SP>1</SP> on the vehicle wall may be provided for the other end of a single belt or the end of the other belt portion if two portions fastened by a buckle are used. Alternatively a wholly deformable pillar 12 with attachment points 14 may be detachably secured to the lateral longitudinal bearer 8. The pillars 9 and/or 12 may be rearwardly inclined. |
