PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new N-substituted-1-amino-5-halo-2-pentanone derivative and its hydrohalide salt which are usable for obtaining a 1-amino-5- halo-2-pentanone, its hydrohalide salt, a 3-hydroxy-N-substituted-piperidine and its hydrohalide salt, and also to provide a production method used for them. SOLUTION: The N-substituted-1-amino-5-halo-2-pentanone derivative and its hydrohalide are represented by formula (1). [wherein, X is a halogen atom; R<1> , R<2> , and R<3> are each independently H or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group; R<4> and R<5> are each independently H or an arylmethyl group which may have a substituent, at least one of R<4> and R<5> is an arylmethyl group which may be substituted].
