PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape cartridge which is formed by rotatably housing a single reel, wound with a magnetic tape on the outer periphery of a reel drum into a cartridge case and providing the interior of the reel drum with a locking member which locks the reel, for inhibiting the rotation of the reel, while it is not in use, movably between a locking position and an unlocking position in the axial direction of the reel and to prevent chucking defects, when this magnetic tape cartridge is set in a longitudinally placed state into a driver. SOLUTION: A clearance C1, in the radial direction between the locking member 4 and the reel drum 21, is set smaller than a clearance C2 in the radial direction between the reel 2 and a cartridge case 3a.
