The ski boot comprises an upper shell area and a lower shell area. The fro nt and sides of the upper shell area are firmly supportive. The rear of the upp er shell area is stiff, so that the back of the leg is strongly supported. In the low er shell area is the sole, which is lifted greatly at the rear by locating a high heel under the rearward region of the sole. The sole rigidly supports the foot, especially in a torsional manner. The skier's heel is lifted causing the ankle to become less bent and have greater mobility. The lifted sole functions with the upper shell area, to help the skier apply edge pressure to the ski while allowing the skier to more easily maintain a balanced position. An arch substructure is positioned under the mid-sole region to ea se walking on stairs.
