<p>A translucent reflective liquid crystal display comprising a first substrate having a transparent electrode, a second substrate having a translucent reflective electrode on which a region having reflective function and a region having transmitting function are formed, a homogeneously oriented liquid crystal layer clamped between the first and second substrates, a first optical anisotropic element and a polarization plate placed on a plane opposite to the plane touching the liquid crystal layer of the first substrate, and a second optical anisotropic element and a polarization plate placed on a plane opposite to the plane touching the liquid crystal layer of the second substrate. Since the second optical anisotropic element is at least a sheet of liquid crystal film exhibiting optically positive uniaxial properties where a nematic hybrid orientation formed by a liquid crystal polymer substance under liquid crystal state is fixed, a translucent reflective liquid crystal display providing a bright display with high contrast in transmission mode and having good view angle characteristics is obtained.</p> |
