Method for reconstruction of 2-D and 3-D images from X-ray conical projection data that combines inner examination area high resolution projections with outer lower resolution projections for optimum imaging

Method in which conical projections are obtained using an X-ray C-frame device that is rotated around an examination area (3a, 4) to obtain projection images. According to the method two series of images are obtained the first using lower resolution to obtain a larger examination area (3a), the second using higher resolution so that only a smaller examination area (4) is obtained. The final 3-D image of the examination area is obtained by combination of the two image series so that an inner high resolution area is combined with an outer lower resolution area. An Independent claim is made for a corresponding X-ray device with a C-frame (5), X-ray source (1) and image amplifier (2).
