The sorting system (1) has an outer ring (2) set at a slight angle to the horizontal and a floor (3) rotating underneath the ring. The workpieces may be hard metal teeth for cutting machines and are fed onto the central portion of the floor through a sloping metal tube (12). The floor has a raised rim connected to the central portion by a slope of approximately 30 degrees. A guide element (10) moves the teeth onto the raised rim, where they move past optical and weight sensors (21,22). There is a chute (26) for rejected teeth. There is a guide piece (19) and a second chute (18) for removal of teeth which have passed inspection.
