PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the pressing device of a hole sewing machine capable of improving the operability of buttonholing. SOLUTION: This pressing device (10) of the sewing machine is provided with a cloth presser (20) pressing an object to be sewn mounted on the upper surface of a feed bar (64) and a first driving means (31) moving the cloth presser, a locking means (40) locked to a part of the cloth presser, a second driving means (32) moving the locking means along the driving direction of the first driving means (31) and a control means (50) adjusting the moving amount of the cloth presser by controlling the movement of the locking means disposed below the upper surface of the feed bar. Thus, a presser foot can be stopped between an elevated position and a lowered position, an operator easily recognizes the position relation of cloth and the presser foot and accurately positions the cloth and the operability of holing is improved.
