<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems on a conventional recycling method for a phosphor that, in recovering a rare earth element from a used phosphor by conventional techniques, e.g. by leaching the rare earth element with an acid, the step of chemical treating is complex and economically disadvantageous, and that the mother crystals of a phosphor are dissolved by a solvent and become unrecyclable; and to provide a new method capable of economically and efficiently recycling a degraded phosphor. SOLUTION: A recycling method wherein a degraded phosphor is baked in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature of 1,500 deg.C or lower, is provided. Preferably, the degraded phosphor is mechanochemically treated before the baking.</p> |
