<p>The present invention relates to novel polynucleotides and polypeptides, a therapeutic modulator for use in preventing or treating autoimmune disease and to a method of screening for the modulator, as well as a method to the diagnosis of autoimmune disease, (in particular psoriasis, type I diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis). Linkage disequilibrium mapping is used to localise a psoriasis susceptibility locus and specific polymorphisms in this locus. In particular the invention relates to the use of an agent that modulates PAT1 (Psoriasis Associated Transporter 1) or a , component which: (i)regulates cation-chloride transport,or (ii) is affected by cation-chloride transport, or (iii) regulates PAT1, or (iv) is affected by PAT1; in the manufacture of a medicament for preventing or treating autoimmune disease.</p> |
