PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head which generates no printing failures even by continuous printing, etc., and can lower power consumption. SOLUTION: The thermal head has a sacrifice layer 13 formed of a transition metal to an upper face of a radiating substrate 11. A bridge layer 14 formed of cermet or a ceramic material is layered to an upper face of a heat insulating layer 12 including the sacrifice layer 13. A hollow part 15 is formed between the bridge layer 14 and the heat insulating layer 12. A plurality of slits S for exposing the hollow part are formed to the bridge layer 14 on the hollow part 15, and an inorganic heat insulating layer 16 having high insulating properties is formed to an upper face of the bridge layer 14 including the slits S. An inorganic protecting layer 17 selected from Si, or oxides, nitrides and carbides of Al is layered to an upper face of the inorganic heat insulating layer 16. A heating element 18a is formed to over the slits S and between the slits S via the inorganic heat insulating layer 16 and the inorganic protecting layer 17.
