PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner with improved dust collecting efficiency and enhanced usability. SOLUTION: In the vacuum cleaner provided with a motor-driven blower 4 generating suction force, a rotary brush 30 raking up dust and an electric motor 32 driving the rotary brush 30, when not driving the rotary brush 30 while cleaning a surface to be cleaned, the input of the motor-driven blower 4 is increased compared to the time of driving the rotary brush 30. By driving the rotary brush 30, the efficiency of racking up the dust on the surface to be cleaned is improved and the dust collecting efficiency is improved.
