PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that high precision is required for mutual positioning of a plurality of magnetic heads and a cost is increased since a plurality of magnetic heads are mounted on a rotary drum in the conventional rotary head device. SOLUTION: A magnetic head H1 to be mounted on the rotary drum 1a is a compound thin film magnetic head consisting of an MR type thin film magnetic head for reproduction and an inductive head for recording. The magnetic head H1 is mounted on a circuit board 3 fixed to the rotary drum 1a. The magnetic tape is helically wound to the rotary head device and the magnetic head H1 obliquely scans a recording surface of the magnetic tape. In addition, a track is formed at this point as forming a guard band on the magnetic tape.
