NOVEL STRESS PROTEIN HAVING CHAPERONE ACTIVITY

PURPOSE: A novel stress protein having chaperone activity is provided, therefore the protein NSP, an antibody therefor and a polynucleotide encoding it are useful for the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by various animal pathogenic organisms. CONSTITUTION: The stress protein NSP having chaperone activity is provided, wherein its expression is increased in an animal cell exposed to stresses; it has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1; the stress is selected from the group consisting of infection by pathogenic organisms, heat shock, nutrition deficiency, toxic metal, oxygen radical and metabolism breakdown; and the pathogenic organism can be a virus, a bacterium or a parasite. A method for producing the stress protein NSP comprises the steps of: (a) inserting the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2 encoding the stress protein NSP into a vector; (b) transforming a host cell with the vector; (c) culturing the transformed cell in an appropriate medium; and (d) recovering the purified stress protein NSP from the cultured medium.
