A distance measuring device (10) for measuring a distance to an object (M) o f measurement, comprising a source (11) for outputting variable-frequency signals, a transmission means (12) for emitting an electromagnetic wave havi ng the same frequency as that of an output signal from the source (11), a detection means (13) provided between the transmission means (12) and the object (M), for detecting the amplitude of a standing wave (S) formed betwee n the transmission means (12) and the object (M) and outputting a detection signal, and a signal processor (14) for producing a detection signal functio n indicative of a detection signal value relative to the output signal frequen cy to calculate, from its frequency, the distance between the detection means (13) and the object (M) of measurement.
