1275543 Microscope specimen package INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 7 Jan 1970 [17 Jan 1969] 759/70 Heading G2J [Also in Division B8] A method of packaging and mounting a specimen 15 for examination and storage comprises sandwiching said specimen between two sheets 12, 18 of optically clear synthetic film, sheet 12 being attached to an optically clear epoxy resin substrate 14, then removing the package 19 of the sheets and specimen from the substrate and adhesively mounting it in an abraded aperture 21 of a record card 20 suitable for insertion in data processing and retrieval systems. Initially the sample 15 e.g. a pathology specimen is placed on the flexible film 12 (preferably a co-polymer of a fluorinated monomer and chlorotrifluoroethylene) which is bonded peripherally by pressure sensitive adhesive 13 to a polycarbonate substrate 14 and after staining and mounting in a suitable medium 17, a similar plastic film 18 is sealed thereover. Microscopic examination may be performed on the sealed film sandwich, Fig. 3, before or after attachment to card 20, handling being facilitated before attachment by an extension 16 to the substrate 14. |
