1363888 Gas diffusion electrodes UNITED AIRCRAFT CORP 11 Nov 1971 [18 Nov 1970] 52336/71 Heading H1B A gas diffusion electrode comprises a substrate supporting a catalyst layer consisting of an alloy of platinum with nickel, copper, iron or cobalt. The alloy is in particulate form and an adherent coating of tungsten oxide is disposed upon the surface of the particles. The coated alloy particles are held together by a P.T.F.E. binder on a carbon paper substrate. Preferably, the alloy also includes rhodium to increase its surface area. The electrode may be used in a fuel cell in which the fuel is hydrogen and the electrolyte is H 3 PO 4 . |
