PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a knitted fabric giving a good tailored result and feeling when worn with both the characteristics combined together in a single fabric by directly knitting a knitted article from a woven fabric using a flat knitting machine. SOLUTION: This method for producing a knitted fabric 11 is characterized by comprising the steps of forming a gap 6 at the end inside part of each of the selvedge constructions 4 formed on both sides of a woven fabric 3, hooking the knitting needle 7 of a flat knitting machine, starting a knitting from each of the selvedge constructions 4 of the woven fabric 3, and combining the resultant knitted work 10 and the woven fabric 3 together.
