PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optically and automatically inspect the assembled condition of a damper device for a lockup piston. SOLUTION: While the lockup piston 30, having the damper device 33 assembled to it, is turned, a laser beam 6a is irradiated to the damper device 33 from a laser irradiation part 3 in a reflection type laser sensor 2, a reflected laser beam 6b from the damper device 33 is received by a laser beam receiving part 4, and the received beam data are processed by a data processing part 8. In a data comparison part 9, the processed data DTa are compared with reference data DTo stored in a reference data storage part 10, and according to agreement/disagreement between the processed data DTa and the reference data DTo, non-defective (passing)/defect (failure) is displayed on a display part 1, while an image, formed on the basis of the processed data DTa, is displayed on the display part 11.
