PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal protector that can prevent a risk from carbonization up to fire breakout caused by arcs occurring in opening or closing of a contact as much as possible. SOLUTION: This thermal protector comprises terminals 2, 3, a contact opening-closing part 4 connecting one end with the terminal 2 and the other end with the terminal 3, and a bimetal 5 for actuating the contact opening- closing part 4 at certain temperature, and notched parts 30 are formed in the thermal element so that a pair of terminals 2, 3 are short-circuited at the end of life.
