PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali metal secondary electrochemical cell, preferably a lithium ion cell, provided with a removable gas release valve. SOLUTION: The gas release valve is positioned on the casing of the cell so as to allow fluid to flow through between the inside and outside thereof. The valve serves to remove cell gases generated in the cell during cell formation. Once the formation of the lithium ion cell has completed, the release valve is removed and replaced with a hermetic closing material. The valve removal and the cell sealing is processed in an environment where no outside gases are introduced in the casing. The cell is also provided in a tank filled with an inert gas, using a filter which separates the cell gases from the inert gas. When the cell formation has been completed, the cell is hermetically sealed. |
