Organosilicon compounds are added to organophosphorus pesticides to prevent hydrolysis of the latter by water or water-vapour. Organochlorosilanes, organoalkoxysilanes and hexamethyldisilazane are effective; 0.5-10% of these are added to the pesticide. The pesticides are phosphate, phosphites and their sulphur analogues; one of the hydrocarbon groups may be halogen substituted. Dimethyl dichlorovinyl phosphate is preferred. In an example, this pesticide (50 parts) is mixed with dimethyl phthalate (50 parts) and octadecyltrichlorosilane (2 parts); 85% of the pesticide survives for a month at 80% humidity, compared with 66% in a control without silane.
|
