PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a carbonyl compound by efficiently carrying out a dehydrogenation reaction of an alcohol. SOLUTION: This method for producing the carbonyl compound comprises adding a ligating organic compound having a phosphorus atom or a nitrogen atom according to the progress of the reaction time when producing the carbonyl compound by subjecting the alcohol to the dehydrogenation reaction in the presence of a transition metal catalyst having an organic ligand containing the phosphorus atom or the nitrogen atom.
