Polyamide resin articles are dyed to give a discontinuous or shaded colouring effect resembling tortoiseshell or a marble effect by dipping the article into an aqueous dyeing bath acidified to pH 3-6 containing at least one dispersed dye and having on its surface a small quantity of oil sufficient to cover at most ¥ of the surface of the dyeing bath. Polyamide resin articles mentioned are spectacle frames, hair clips, bag handles, combs. Suitable dyes are azo and anthraquinone compounds. The oil may be a mineral oil, a vegetable or animal fat oil, or an artificial or synthetic oil insoluble in water. The articles may be made of polycaprolactam. The article may be rotated whilst it is dipped in the dyeing bath.</p> |
