PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for making a desired music piece retrievable by a user, on the basis of a subjective impression of the music piece. SOLUTION: The subjective requirements of the user for the music piece whose retrieval is desired are inputted, digitized and outputted, a predicted impression value for which the impression of the music piece of a retrieval object is calculated from the output and a music piece data base which store the acoustic signals of a plurality of the music pieces and impression values for which the impressions of the music pieces are quantified is retrieved with the predicted impression value as a key. Thus, on the basis of the subjective image for the music piece of the user, the desired music piece are mode retrievable.
