The protector consists of a plate (2) of a material as hard as or harder than an adjacent contacting component, fixed or integrated in a supple support (3) that can adapt to the shape of the pipe (4). The plate can be made from a series of adjacent strips and enclosed between two layers of a support made from different materials. The support can be of an elastomer material with an adhesive surface, and the plate moulded in it during manufacture in continuous lengths.
