PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee a smooth transfer of a retainer and heighten a locking force at the same time. SOLUTION: A retainer 30 is inserted into a retainer inserting opening 27 formed across a tower part 21 of a female housing 20 in two steps of a temporary locking position and a proper locking position. In the retainer 30, a pair of an elastic locking part 33 and a fixed locking part 35, separate from each other in front and back, are formed for each cavity 23. Basically, the elastic locking part 35 thrusts into the cavity 23 at a temporary locking position, and the fixed locking part 35 at a proper locking position, when, the elastic locking part 33 is formed in a width about 1.5 times the cavity 23, and can be continuously locked to a locked protrusion 15 of a corresponding female side terminal fitting 10 during transition from the temporary locking position to the proper locking position. While the elastic locking part 33 holds the female side terminal fitting 10 at a given position, the retainer 30 is pressed in smoothly to the proper locking position, and is doubly locked by both the elastic locking part 33 and the fixed locking part 35 at the proper locking position.
