NOVEL AGENT FOR TREATING SEPSIS

PURPOSE: An agent for treating sepsis(endotoxemia) containing geldanamycin, dehydrocostus lactone and/or rutaecarpine which have not been known as a prostaglandin E2 synthesis inhibitor is provided which can effectively treat sepsis induced by lipopolysaccharide as a cell wall component of gram negative bacteria. CONSTITUTION: The sepsis treating agent contains geldanamycin represented by the formula 1 as a benzoquinone compound, dehydrocostus lactone represented by the formula 2 as a sesquiterpene compound and/or rutaecarpine represented by the formula 3 as a quinazolidine compound. The agent is used with one or more selected a bronchodilator, antihistaminic agent, antiinflammatory and analgesic agent and antibiotics.
